Vettel Claims Championship Lead in Canada

Sebastian Vettel claimed both victory and the Canadian Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.

Vettel got a clean get away and immediately began to create a lead over second place man Valtteri Bottas. This was quickly cut short as the safety car took to the circuit to allow marshals to tend to a high speed collision between Brendon Hartley and Lance Stroll. Both drivers walked away unscathed and Stroll's home fans could breathe a sigh of relief.

Even after the safety car had been retired, the race was extremely processional. Not even the championship battle between Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull could provide any action or intensity.

Besides the crash on Lap 1, the only incident came on the final lap of the race. Canadian model Winnie Harlow had been invited to wave the chequered flag. A miscommunication between she and Race Director Charlie Whiting led to Winnie waving the flag at the beginning of the final lap rather than the end. As Vettel had passed the line at the time that the flag had been displayed, the race had to be declared over. Bizarre but it's the rules.

Sebastian Vettel walked away with the winners trophy and the Drivers Championship lead.

Lets's hope for more action next time out in France!
