Vettel Beats Raikkonen to Pole in Russia!

Sebastian Vettel beat teammate Kimi Raikkonen to pole position during an intense Qualifying session for the Russian Grand Prix.

The early part of Qualifying was dominated by Valtteri Bottas and the Mercedes team. Even teammate Lewis Hamilton managed to be faster than the men at Ferrari.

The only incident of the day came at the end of Q1 when Pascal Wehrlein and Jolyon Palmer were found in tyre barriers around the circuit. It was another major disappointment for the two struggling men of F1.

Q3 was an intense battle for pole between Ferrari and Mercedes. The Silver Arrows were the first to take to the track and set their benchmark times. However, when the Prancing Horses came out, they just got quicker and quicker. Raikkonen secured provisional pole before being harshly beaten by teammate Sebastian Vettel.

This was the first pole position for Ferrari since the French Grand Prix in 2008, one that Raikkonen gained. As for Vettel, it was his first since the Singapore Grand Prix in 2010.
