Hamilton Fastest in Friday Free Practice!

Lewis Hamilton made the perfect start to the 2017 Formula 1 season by setting the fastest time in both Friday Free Practice sessions ahead of the Australian Grand Prix.

Understandably, there was a lot of support for local hero and Red Bull ace Daniel Ricciardo. Luckily he gave them something to cheer about, finishing in the top five in both sessions.

Some drivers experienced teething problems whilst getting used to their new cars. Jolyon Palmer was the worst effected. He had a transmission issue in Free Practice 1 and crashed into the wall in the final five minutes of Free Practice 2, bringing it to an early end.

Hamilton was the fastest man on track in both sessions. Will he continue tomorrow in Free Practice 3 and Qualifying?

Hamilton Takes Pole in Australia!

Lewis Hamilton took pole position for the first Grand Prix of the 2017 Formula One season at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia.

As expected after Free Practice, all three Qualifying sessions saw a tight fight between Mercedes drivers Hamilton and Bottas and Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.

Besides Hamilton, the most impressive driver in Qualifying was Sauber reserve driver, Antonio Giovinazzi. Taking part in his first F1 Qualifying, Giovinazzi who was replacing the injured Pascal Wehrlein finished 16th. How will he fare in tomorrow's race?

The final session had a bitter end as local hero Daniel Ricciardo smashed into the wall, bringing out the red flag.

Hamilton secured his first pole position of 2017 ahead of Vettel and Bottas.

Sebastian Vettel set the fastest time in the final Free Practice session ahead of Qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix.

Pascal Wehrlein decided not to take part in the rest of the weekend due to injury concerns. He will be replaced by Sauber reserve driver Antonio Giovinazzi.

The session was ended 10 minutes early because of a large crash at Turn 9, which saw Lance Stroll hit the wall, destroying his Williams car.

Vettel was quickest ahead of Mercedes rivals Valterri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton.
