Tsar Rosberg Reigns in Russia

Nico Rosberg made it four out of four as he took his first Russian Grand Prix win, thanks to a Tsar-style performance.

Nico began on pole positon and like all other drivers, got a good, clean start. However disaster struck at Turn 2 as contact took place between drivers and teams at front, middle AND rear of the pack. Throughout the carnage, 3 drivers were lost and two experienced early pit stops for damage repairs. The most frustrated of all was Sebastian Vettel, who was hit by home boy Daniil Kvyat for a second consecutive race. Vettel was so angry that he even paid a visit to Red Bull pit wall and complained to his old boss Christian Horner.

After a brief Safety Car period, racing resumed and Rosberg began bridging the gap between himself and the rest of the field. Drivers also began to complete pit stops. Kvyat and Esteban Gutierrez had to complete extra ones to serve penalites as they were found guilty of causing collisions on Lap 1.

Lewis Hamilton was having a super race. Despite suffering a power unit failure in the final session of Qualifying and starting 10th, he was rocketing up the order. The team had informed him of a potential water issue but this and a combination of fresh rubber and DRS spurred him on to fight for a podium position.

After 53 laps of sparkling in the Sochi sunshine, Nico Rosberg and his Silver Arrow crossed the line to take victory. This was the first time that Rosberg had completed a weekend triple: Pole Position, Race win and Fastest Lap.
